At GDI, our custodians are more than employees — they are the heart of our operations. Every day, they show up with dedication, professionalism, and care, keeping the spaces we live, work, and learn in safe and clean. On October 2, National Custodian Workers Recognition Day, we take the opportunity to say a resounding thank you to our frontline heroes.
Custodians are often the unseen force behind our everyday environments. Long before many people arrive and long after they leave, custodians are working tirelessly to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Recognizing them is about honouring their contributions and reminding ourselves that without their work, our workplaces, schools, and facilities simply could not function.

This year, we’re spotlighting our custodians to give everyone a chance to get to know them as people, not just by the uniforms they wear. We asked custodians questions about their hobbies, dreams, favourite memories, and what bring them joy, and their answers did not disappoint.
By sharing these stories, we want to shine a light on the fact that custodians are so much more than their job titles. They are parents, dreamers, cooks, singers, sports fans, community builders, and so much more. Their work matters deeply, but so do their lives and the stories that make them unique.
National Custodian Workers Recognition Day is not just about a single day — it’s about creating a culture of appreciation. We encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize the custodians in their lives, whether through a note of appreciation, a coffee, or even a simple thank-you. Small gestures can go a long way in letting people know they are valued.
At GDI, we are proud to celebrate our custodians not just for what they do, but for who they are. Their dedication keeps our world moving forward, and their stories inspire us all.
